PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES

Michael Reese Hospital maintains a full spectrum psychiatric care for children, adolescents and adults including inpatient hospitalization for acute psychiatric cases as well as an intensive outpatient program for individuals in need of ongoing support. The department also provides medical detoxification for people with mental illness who have a dual diagnosis of drug and/or alcohol addiction or dependence. Services include intake and assessment, individualized inpatient or outpatient treatment plans and referral to community resources. For more information, call 312-791-3800.

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient Treatment Services include an individualized treatment plan that is based on initial assessment and acts as a guide to the participant’s clinical needs throughout the duration of services. This plan identifies which behaviors are the most disruptive to successful placement in the community and will include the least restrictive plan for addressing those problems. For individuals with a dual diagnosis, the treatment plan includes referral to organizations that provide addiction treatment. Clients are prepared for post-release services by completing plans for ongoing medication management, housing and case management services.

Outpatient Treatment

The Outpatient Treatment Program provides intensive psychiatric services to patients, four hours a day, five days a week. Patients attend the program an average of four to six months and participate in ongoing individual therapy, group therapy, recreational therapy and medication management services. Referrals are also made to the community for adjunct services such as housing, public aid and intensive case management services.
