Together with a group of hospital physicians, an affiliate of Envision
Hospital Corporation operates Michael Reese Hospital in
Chicago, Illinois. Michael Reese Hospital physicians developed the
following mission statement that reflects the hospital's rich history of
providing healthcare service in Chicago.
"Our mission is to empower our community and physicians to recreate a
patient-centered institution that renders the highest quality care,
emphasizes the paramount importance of the doctor/patient relationship,
promotes fiscal responsibility and preserves a rich tradition of
innovation and teaching."
Michael Reese Hospital is a 450-bed facility that offers a comprehensive
array of inpatient and outpatient services. These services range from
allergy treatment to full Level III maternity, neonatal and pediatric
care, from internal medicine to surgery centers.
Founded in 1881, the hospital initially opened its doors to provide care
to poor immigrants. Michael Reese has continued its mission over the
past 109 years to provide quality, compassionate care to all members of
the community, especially the underserved. During its exemplary era as a
major teaching and research medical center, the hospital prepared
students of all disciplines to be tomorrow’s leaders.
In 1998, Envision Hospital Corporation created a novel
structure for the management of Michael Reese Hospital, which includes
involving physicians in major decisions and strategic planning for the
delivery of patient care. This model successfully transitioned the
hospital from being financially compromised to preserving Michael
Reese's tertiary care status and it long tradition of teaching,
research, community-service and innovation.
