DEALING WITH DIABETES
Self-management of diabetes is a goal of diabetes
education. This class covers what diabetes is and
how it affects the body, blood sugar goals, the
importance of blood glucose monitoring, self-care
strategies, basic dietary guidelines and the
emotional / psychosocial aspects of diabetes.
MONITORING BLOOD GLUCOSE & METER DEMONSTRATION
Patients manage their diabetes better and reduce the
risk for complications when they monitor their
diabetes with a blood glucose meter. The class
covers types of meters, meter features and
monitoring procedures.
**Prior authorization or a physician referral for
diabetes testing supplies is recommended to receive
a meter.
DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP
Patients can get together and talk about how they
are managing their diabetes and discuss topics of
interest and concern. Sessions are loosely
structured to allow for group interaction.
UNDERSTANDING INSULIN
Insulin types and action often confuse people who
take it. This class is an A-Z primer on how insulin
works in the body, types of insulin available,
delivery options, site rotation, sick day guidelines
and the signs and symptoms of hypo-and
hyperglycemia.
TAKING CARE OF YOUR FEET
A podiatrist answers questions about diabetes and
care of the feet. The importance of daily
inspections, foot assessment skills, and how to
choose footwear will also be discussed. It is
important for people with diabetes to take extra
precautions with their feet.
KEEPING THAT LOVIN' FEELING: SEXUAL HEALTH AND
DIABETES
Diabetes can affect more than one’s health.
Relationships can suffer too. This class openly
discusses problems that can occur, lifestyle
factors, treatment and options available. Lifestyle
factors and glycemic goals are also discussed.
